Dupuytren’s Contracture and Xiapex

Dupuytren’s contracture is a medical condition that mainly affects the patient’s hands and fingers. In the beginning, nodules start to develop in the connective tissue right under the skin of your palm. These nodules contain fibroblasts that grow into cords, due to which the patient faces difficulty in extending their fingers to a full extent. The fingers that are affected by Dupuytren’s disease get fixed into a permanent bent position.

This disease can be commonly found in Europeans of white ethnicity and in areas like the Nordics where it can affect as much as 15% of the population. This disease is generally related to genetic causes. Abnormal lumps and dimples that start appearing on the palm and variation in skin thickness on the palm are some of its symptoms.

Collagenase Clostridium histolyticum, more commonly known and marketed as Xiapex, is a new kind of treatment used to cure Dupuytren’s contracture disease without the need for surgical operation.

Xiapex (Pfizer) is the first authorized injectable cure for Dupuytren’s contracture disease in adults with a palpable cord.

Xiapex is an injectable treatment that can be used today to fix Dupuytren-related medical conditions with immediate results and without the need to perform a surgical operation.

Especially trained in dealing with the palpable cords involved in Xiapex treatment, Dr. Rubinraut was one of the first doctors to introduce Xiapex injections in Israel and today she is leading this field of expertise, helping dozens of patients to quickly and fully recover from the effects of Dupuytren’s contracture without having to undergo an operation.
